Why we homeschool

Why...oh why.  I thought I would try to list a few reasons.  (And side note:  this works for us.  We are not you.  If this isn't your cup of tea, no hard feelings whatsoever.  I get it.)

Homeschooling has always been in the back of my mind.  I wavered now and then, researched slowly.  Was going to homeschool preschool for DS1, but ended up sending him to a church-based preschool.  It has worked out wonderfully for all of us.  The closer kindergarten loomed, the more I questioned.  DS1 is not ready for full day kindy at all, and that is the only choice in our state.  We aren't comfortable with the way the general school system is heading right now (more kids per teacher, not enough individual attention academically, what teachers are required to teach in some instances) and both DH and I came to the conclusion to at least give this a try.  Not only do I want my kids to learn, I want them to be able to explore rabbit trails that interest them.  We want them to learn at their pace and level, not being pushed or held back by the class.  We want them to see how everything interacts and is part of a bigger picture.  We are taking it year by year, but I am already excited to officially start!
